The number of towers planned for London has increased more than 10% in the past 12 months. Underling the building boom throughout the capital, everyone is looking for new ways to cater for the 8.6 million and growing population. As of March 2015, there are 263 tall buildings over 20 storeys either proposed, already approved or actually being built. No fewer than 70 towers are already being built today with a further 76 proposed or in the planning system, including a number of architectural wonders that will forever shape London’s future. Here we pick out 5 Towers that we most look forward to seeing come to life:
One Blackfriars, Southwark

The south side of Blackfriars Bridge has been earmarked for a series of towers. Replacing an uninspiring office block, work at the 50-storey One Blackfriars Tower has already started. The development will feature 274 flats with penthouse suites expected to fetch up to £23m. Due for completion in 2017, One Blackfriars is an example of architectural brilliance and will surely add a whole new dimension to London’s skyline.
Hertsmere Tower, Isle of Dogs

A list of the tallest residential-led towers proposed for London shows 10 of the top 12 are planned for the Isle of Dogs. Hertsmere House is the highest of those at 242 metres. At 75 storeys, Hertsmere Tower is the highest of any planned buildings in London. Set to become the highest residential building in Western Europe, 700 luxury interior designapartments will have breath-taking views over the capital and it could be finished as early as 2018. At a cost of £1billion, the tower will be 7 metres taller than One Canada Square, the tallest Canary Wharf building at present and only 64m short of The Shard. One Merchant Square

Intended to be the tallest building in Westminster, in 2018, 1 Merchant Square also known as The Cucumber will soar 42 storeys above its exciting Paddington area providing spectacular panoramic views over London. Angel's Canaletto is a tower of new luxury flats rises up on City Road Basin and already under construction. This 31-storey building has 190 flats, a spa and private cinema. The glass and steel scheme has 190 flats and a garden terrace on one of the higher floors.
